Traffic on Muhanga-Ngororero-Mukamira road, a key upcountry corridor South West of Rwanda, has been diverted after landslide triggered by heavy rains led to its closure.

Motorists have been advised to use Kigali-Musanze-Rubavu road.

“We would like to inform the public that due to heavy rains that caused landslides at Karago, the road RN11, Muhanga-Ngororero-Mukamira is impassable,” Rwanda National Police said on Wednesday.

This is yet another rain-induced closure in two weeks of the upcountry road linking Western Districts of Ngororero, Nyabihu and Rubavu via Muhanga District.

It was temporarily closed on April 20 after river Nyabarongo overflowed following days heavy rains, making it impassable.
