KIGALI NIGHT RUN: Motorists brace for traffic disruptions, delays

Motorists using Kigali Heights roundabout in Kimihurura from the city center or Nyabugogo will contend with delays or find alternative routes as Kigali Night Run takes place Friday March 25 from 7PM-9PM.

The event, which is a curtain raiser for the 17th edition of Kigali Peace  Marathon scheduled on May 29, takes place in a closed route circuit covering 5.4 kilometres, organisers said.

The distance covers the area around Kigali Heights to Kigali Convention Centre roundabout and then to Kabindi roundabout near Primature. The roads will be closed to normal traffic flow.

Alternative routes

Municipal officials advised motorists to coming from Nyabugogo or City Center to take alternative routes including Yamaha-Kinamba-Kacyiru - Golf Course -Tennis Club –Gishushu. , or Sopetrade- Kimicanga - Kacyiru -Golf Course -Tennis Club – Gishushu.

There is also Sopetrade - Kimicanga - in Myembe -Rwandex Sonatube– Gishushu.

Alternatively, motorists from Nyabugogo or town can pass via Sopetrade - Kanogo - Rwandex - Sonatube – Gishushu, or Kinamba - Utexrwa - Akabuga ka Nyarutarama - Nyarutarama – Gishushu.

Kigali city council officials indicate that to facilitate smooth traffic flow, vehicles that will use routes from Gishushu, Kanombe, Gisimenti and Remera heading to the city center or Nyabugogo can use Gishushu-Tennis Club-Golf Course-Kacyiru- Kinamba to their destinations.

Motorists are also advised to use Gishushu-Tenis Club-Golf Course-Kacyiru-Kacyiru - Kimicanga-Sopetrade route, or Gishushu-Sonatube-Rwandex-in Myembe- Kimicanga-Soptrade to the city center/Nyabugogo.

There is also connecting to town or Nyabugogo via Gishushu - Sonatube - Rwandex - Kanogo - Sopetrade, or Gishushu - Nyarutarama - Akabuga ka Nyarutarama - Utexrwa - Kinamba.
