Section of Kigali-Huye road closed, traffic diverted
Rwanda Police on Wednesday diverted traffic on the main road linking the capital Kigali to the Southern town of Huye after section of it in Ruyenzi, a centre in the outskirt of Kigali became impassable.
Police have not stated what exactly happened but reports backed by pictures shared on social media point to a possible collapse of the culvert on the section of the road near Bishenyi market of Kamonyi District, sparking fears that road could sink.
“We would like to inform the public that the road Kigali-Huye between Ruyenzi center and Bishenyi market is impassable,” Police alerted motorists Wednesday.
It is not clear for how long the road will be closed but Police indicated that repair works were being carried out.
Consequently, motorists from Kigali to Huye were directed to use Kigali- Ruyenzi- Nkoto road, while those from Huye are advised to use Nkoto-Gihara- Ruyenzi road.
